2027 Hard Enduro World Calendar: Nine Rounds and GetzenRodeo Finale. But...

The 2027 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship calendar is here, with nine rounds across Europe and the United States. The season opens at Tong Hard Enduro in Great Britain and finishes with a major finale at 24MX GetzenRodeo in Germany.

The calendar mixes familiar HEWC races with some important changes, including the new Wild Woods Stone Extreme in Italy and the return of GetzenRodeo as a World Championship round.

GetzenRodeo Will Decide the Championship

The biggest talking point is the finale. 24MX GetzenRodeo will host Round 9, putting the title fight into one of Hard Enduro’s most intense spectator environments.

The compact Getzenwald course, huge crowds and brutal climbs should make for an incredible place to crown the 2027 World Champion.

But Where Is the Classic Hard Enduro?

There is, however, another side to this calendar worth discussing. Hard Enduro is moving increasingly towards multi-lap formats, which are clearly better for spectators, live timing, broadcasting and media coverage.

But Hard Enduro was also built around something very different: riding into terrain you had never seen before and needing to get it right on the first attempt. One line, one chance, without learning every rock, climb and braking point lap after lap.

That raises a bigger question for the future of the discipline. Where are the long days on the motorcycle? Where is the unknown terrain, the navigation and the ability to adapt immediately to something you have never ridden before?

There is nothing wrong with multi-lap racing. It creates close battles and makes the sport easier to follow. But when almost an entire World Championship moves towards that format, there is a danger of losing part of the skill set that originally defined Hard Enduro.

Outside the championship, some of the sport’s biggest races still preserve that identity. Red Bull Romaniacs remains its own multi-day adventure, Roof of Africa still demands huge days in the mountains, while Erzbergrodeo remains a one-shot fight against the Iron Giant.

Maybe classic Hard Enduro is not disappearing. Maybe it is simply becoming increasingly separated from the World Championship. And that is a conversation worth having.
