In a surprising turn of events for this year’s Red Bull Romaniacs—an edition already billed as a “game changer”—Jonny Walker has opted out of the Gold class, where he’s a two-time champion, and stepped into new terrain: the Adventure class. But he’s not going alone.

Joining him at the starting line will be none other than Sam Sunderland, the two-time Dakar Rally champion. This marks a historic moment, as Sunderland becomes the third Dakar winner to take on the brutal landscapes of Romaniacs, following in the tracks of legends like Cyril Despres and Matthias Walkner.

Both riders will be tackling the Carpathians aboard the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro, a bike purpose-built for this kind of punishment. Its advanced suspension setup is designed to handle the most aggressive terrain, from heavy landings to rocky descents and long step-downs.

Jonny will compete in the Adventure Ultimate class, fresh from an impressive 6th place finish at the 2025 Red Bull Erzbergrodeo. Meanwhile, Sam makes his competitive debut on Triumph machinery in the Adventure Lite class, bringing his rally experience into the hard enduro world for the first time.
