Benoit Fortunato erupe în Marele Premiu al Italiei

Prima etapă de Campionat Mondial de Enduro desfăşurată în Sicilia, la Francavilla di Sicilia, nu departe de vulcanul Etna, s-a încheiat ieri, spre uşurarea piloţilor care au avut de suportat temperaturi infernale şi un traseu extrem de dur. Acesta i-a convenit însă de minune lui Benoit Fortunato, care a terminat a doua zi de concurs pe locul întâi, fiind primul pilot care reuşeşte să-i vină de hac finlandezului Antti Hellsten (KTM), liderul clasamentului general, un sportiv neînvins în actualul sezon.

În prima zi de competiţie, pilotul FTO Racing sponsorizat de Patrick Moto nu şi-a găsit ritmul, avariindu-şi serios şi frâna faţă, ceea ce l-a costat foarte mult timp. După reparaţii, Benoit Fortunato a reuşit să intre în cursă, având de tras serios pentru poziţia opt. A doua zi însă, Benoit a fost foarte rapid şi a avut de dus o luptă dură cu al său compatriot Jérémy Joly, pentru prima poziţie. După ce a luat un avans de cinci secunde, Benoit a căzut pe Cross Test, având apoi de recuperat 12 secunde, pentru care a forţat la maximum. “Am recuperat cinci secunde pe Extrem Test şi şase pe legătura, câştigând practic pe ultima probă specială, la diferenţă de o secundă”, spune Benoit.

Pilotul FTO Racing s-a simţit foarte bine la Marele Premiu al Italiei, descriind cursa drept un “enduro adevărat”, cu un ritm alert, în care a avut de tras din greu nu doar pe probele speciale ci şi pe zonele de legătură. De notat faptul că Extreme Test şi Enduro Test au fost trasate pe albia unui râu secat, piloţii având de parcurs un traseu reprezentat în proporţie de 75% de pietre, cu multe viraje strânse.Aflat în acest moment pe poziţia a patra în clasamentul general al Campionatului Mondial de Enduro Juniori, Benoit Fortunato a mai declarat: “ Am acum cea mai bună dovadă a faptului că sunt suficient de rapid pentru a fi pe primul loc, ceea ce mă motivează enorm pentru antrenamente”.

Benoit Fortunato erupts in the Grand Prix of Italy

The first stage of the World Enduro Championship to be ever held in Sicily, at Francavilla di Sicilia, not far away from the volcano of Etna, ended yesterday, to the relief of many pilots who had to endure hellish temperatures and a very tough track. This was not a problem for the young Benoit Fortunato, who finished  first on Sunday, being the first rider who manages to defeat  Finland’s Antti Hellsten  (KTM), the overall leader in provisional standings, and also break  his uninterrupted chain of victories.

On the first day of competition, the  FTO Racing rider, sponsored by Patrick Moto, didn’t find his good rhythm, seriously damaging his front brake, which costed him a lot of  time. After repairs, Benoit Fortunato managed to re-enter on the track, racing hard, in order to finish on the 8th position. On the next day, however, Benoit was very fast and  led a tough battle for the first position, with his compatriot Jérémy Joly. After taking an advance of five seconds, Benoit fell on the Cross Test, having to recover 12 seconds. He had to push himself  to the limit. “I managed to recover  five seconds on the Extreme Test and six on the liaison, winning on the last special test, at the mere difference of one second!”, said Benoit.

The FTO Racing rider had a real good time at the Italian Grand Prix, describing the race as “a true enduro, with a fast pace, a very technical track, not only on the special tests”.  The Enduro and the Extreme Test were  organized on a dry river bed, the pilots having to race on a route represented 75% of stones, with many hairpin turns. Currently ranking fourth in the overall standings of the World Enduro Junior Championship, Benoit Fortunato also said: “I have now the best evidence that I am fast enough for the first place, and this enormously  motivates for training, and continuing the world championship”
