Maria Grigoraș Conquers Sea to Sky 2026: “Seven Hours of Absolute Hell”

Maria Grigoraș came to Sea to Sky 2026 with one clear objective: finish the Silver class. After three very different days in Kemer, plenty of crashes, a mechanical problem and seven exhausting hours in the Mountain Race, she achieved exactly that.

The young Master Bike Cluj – NordicaMoto rider reached the Silver Gate with only 10 minutes remaining before the time bar, turning one of the hardest days she has ever experienced into one of her most rewarding finishes.

Beach Race: Learning the Sand the Hard Way

Sea to Sky began with something relatively unfamiliar for Maria: racing in deep sand while also dealing with artificial obstacles. The first lap brought plenty of crashes, but the improvement came quickly.

Maria Grigoraș: “Sand and obstacles together were definitely something new for me. Let’s just say I’m not exactly a pro at riding on sand. I spent most of my first lap crashing, but somehow managed to improve by 50 positions on the second one!”

It was not the cleanest start to the weekend, but it showed how quickly she could adapt once she understood the terrain.

Forest Race: Her Father Sacrifices His Own Race

The Forest Race started much better, until a mechanical problem suddenly put Maria’s day at risk. Her chain came off, and it was her father who stopped to help, sacrificing his own race so that she could continue.

Maria Grigoraș: “Everything was going great until my chain came off. My dad ended up sacrificing his own race to help me fix my bike, and thanks to him, I managed to finish the day.”

In a race where simply reaching the next day matters, that intervention kept her Silver goal alive.

Seven Hours to Reach the Silver Gate

Then came the Mountain Race, and this was where Sea to Sky showed its real character. Maria spent around seven hours on the course, describing it as possibly the hardest physical effort of her life.

Maria Grigoraș: “Seven hours of absolute hell. Probably the hardest seven hours of my life, physically speaking. I don’t think I’ve ever been that exhausted.”

Despite the fatigue, she kept moving. With the time limit closing in, Maria finally reached the Silver Gate with only around 10 minutes to spare.

Maria Grigoraș: “When I finally saw that gate, I can’t even explain how happy and relieved I was. All that suffering was finally worth it!”

More Than Riding Skill

For Maria, Sea to Sky changed the way she looks at extreme races. Technical ability matters, but she came away convinced that determination and mental strength are just as important when the body begins asking you to stop.

Maria Grigoraș: “This race is EXTREMELY hard. It takes so much more than just riding skills. You need a crazy amount of determination, both physical and mental strength, and the will to keep going even when your whole body is begging you to stop. It’s honestly hard to explain just how demanding this race is until you experience it yourself. Definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but also one of the most rewarding.”
