Jonny Walker got his participation in the 2015 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship underway on Saturday night, at round one of the six-event series in Gdansk, Poland.81983_jonny_walker_1024

It wasn’t the championship start the 2014 Erzberg and Romaniacs winner had hoped for. Focusing 100 per cent on his SuperEnduro training following his final extreme enduro outing of 2014 at the GetzenRodeo event in Germany, things started in the best possible way for Jonny when he posted the fastest one-lap time to head the SuperPole. But things literally came crashing down around him in the opening final.

Coming together with Taddy Blazusiak in the first turn, Jonny remounted last and battled on to finish 12th. Race two saw Jonny taken out by a rider in front of him on the opening lap. Again forced to battle his way forward he came home fifth. The third and last final thankfully saw things go Jonny’s way, and following a strong start he moved ahead of David Knight to run second for the majority of the race and claim second to Blazusiak.

Jonny Walker: “I know a lot of riders say this, but what happened in Poland, it’s racing. Things don’t always go the way you want them to. Before the first race everything was looking great. Practice and timed training went well and I got the fastest lap in the SuperPole. I wouldn’t say that was as good as it got, because the last final was pretty solid. But yeah, it was disappointing to have such a bad first race. But last year I came away from the opening round eighth in the championship. Despite having two terrible races I’ve come away fourth in the championship. So it’s not too bad. I really did feel good on the track, but it was one of those nights when riders just kept falling in front of me at the last minute, giving me nowhere to go. There’s nothing to do but keep on training hard and come back strong in Germany and do my best their.” Round two of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship takes place inside the SACHSENarena, Riesa, Germany on January 3rd, 2015.
